DMSO affects Aβ<inf>1-40</inf>'s conformation and interactions with aggregation inhibitors as revealed by NMR

Abstract© The Royal Society of Chemistry 2015. We show via 3D-heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy that Aβ<inf>1-40</inf> adopts a disordered conformational ensemble with fluctuating turns in DMSO<inf>d6</inf>. Using NMR, we map the binding sites of three water-insoluble aggregation inhibitors to Aβ<inf>1-40</inf> in DMSO<inf>d6</inf> and discover remarkable differences in Aβ<inf>1-40</inf> recognition by a fourth inhibitor in H<inf>2</inf>O versus DMSO<inf>d6</inf>.
