dc.description.abstractMetal‐insulator transitions in perovskite cobaltites are a fundamental research topic due to the relevance of the spin state of Co for electron mobility in these strongly correlated oxides. We present a study of the Co spin state changes in Pr0.5Ca0.5CoO3 across the metal‐insulator transition by means of the analysis of two complementary synchrotron x‐ray spectroscopic techniques. Recorded experimental and charge transfer multiplet‐ based calculated Co L2,3 absorption spectra, in combination with Co K main emission lines indicate that Co3+ ions spin state evolves from low in the insulating phase to a low: high mixed state in the metallic regime, close to a 1:1 ratio at ambient temperature.es_ES
