Acoustic Full Waveform Inversion of Seismic Oceanography Data

ResumenWe present recent advances on the development of adjoint-state Full Wave-form Inversion (FWI) techniques applied to acoustic oceanography data. FWI allow extracting information on physical properties such as sound speed (c), density (¿), temperature (T), and salinity (S), from the acoustic reflectivity of the ocean¿s thermohaline fine structure recorded by multichannel seismic (MCS) data. We focus on the two main FWI approaches proposed so far. One is based on the iterative inversion of c, while the rest of parameters (T, S, and ¿) are obtained in a second step using the equations of state and local T-S relationships. In the second approach, T and S are directly inverted from MCS data.
