dc.description.abstractA series of anisothermal multipass hot torsion tests were carried out to simulate hot rolling on two low-carbon steels with different compositions and designed for pipeline construction. The evolution of austenite microstructure and precipitation state during rolling were characterized and the effects of cooling rate and austenite strengthening obtained at the end of thermomechanical processing on the final microstructure obtained after cooling were studied. Higher levels of austenite strengthening promote a refinement of final microstructure but can also restrict the fraction of low-temperature transformation products obtained at high cooling rates such as acicular ferrite. This works illustrates how the improvement of composition and thermomechanical processing of steel can contribute to achieve a safe and reliable access to energy, get environmental benefits and enhance economical savings during pipeline construction and life cycle.-
