Abstract[EN] In agreement with historical knowledge of benthonic seaweed distribution , changes from 1930 to the present have been considered. The most realistic prediction is that large macrophytes (fucoids and laminarians) could disappear if temperatures keep rising at the same average rate shown so far. On the other hand, the high individual plasticity and the genetic and population variability of the seaweed with two or more generations per year change at a faster rate than temperature variation does. The vertical distribution of the seaweed will be directly affected by a change in sea level, so seaweed would move to higher levels. It could be presumed that chlorophyll a concentration will decrease, allowing for higher light penetration, and seaweed may reach deeper levels than the current ones.
