Los hermanos Jaime y Vicente Bort en la Corte: el Puente Verde y el de Trofa
Tárraga Baldó, María Luisa
[EN] The object of this paper is to introduce one of the most interesting aspects of the Bort brothers who were intimately connected with Murcia. Jaime Bort, the builder of the western façade of the Cathedral of Murcia, was called to the Court in 1749 because of his experience in hydraulics, in order to entrust him with the construction of the Puente Verde (Green Bridge) over the river Manzanares and the Trofa Bridge over one of the tributaries that flow into this river.
This fact (Bort’s work at the Court9 is part of a known chapter of his biography, but the greatest accuracy, confirm the prestige that the master designer of the façade of the Cathedral in Murcia enjoyed at this time.
Bort’s work of remarkable importance for the European baroque (if centered only in his works in Murcia ) was thus extended and confirms ones more the Valencian master’s exceptional activity as regards hydraulic works at the Court, where he had been introduced by powerful protectors-
The presence of his brother Vicente an the possible connections between the St. Ferdinand sculpture or the Green Bridge andt the of his namesake on the Murcian ‘imafronte’ allow us may be to observe the beginning of a process of assigning the ornamental constructions of the Murican ‘imafronte’.
