A new design of the ATLAS inner detector vertex and track reconstruction software is described. High modularity, common interfaces and event data model for different tracking algorithms have been accomplished, fulfilling at the same time the physics requirements. Emphasis on realism and on real data analysis has been given in order to apply it to real data from the ATLAS combined test beam and to the first cosmic runs taken by the as-built detector. The performance of the reconstruction software is shown for both real data and full ATLAS simulated events.
