The XRD and IR spectroscopy can be utilized for defining the characteristics and types of the complicated mineral group of alkali feldspars. This kind of feldspars depicts: compositional variations (solid solutions), exsolutions textures, ordering in several levels and different structures (symmetries). In order to characterize and classified the alkali feldspars a methodology is proposed in this paper. From the cell parameters, the variables of: symmetry, ordering, composition and internal deformation can be determined. Some examples of indexing and cell parameters are shown by using the CALPAR CALPAR program written in MathCAD.
