On the Amorphization of Fe-Si by Mechanical alloying

A mixture of Fe and Si powders (3:1 in atomic proportion) has been milled for different periods of time in a planetary ball mill. Investigations of the microstructure and properties of the materials so prepared were performed using XRD, SEM, DSC and VSM techniques. Evidences about the partial formation of the solid solution Fe75Si25 as well as about the amorphous structure of the as-milled material were found.
