Arrays of holey metal films with dielectric or polaritonic micropillars filling or towering over the holes are prepared using templates from directionally solidified eutectics. The structures can be flexible and show localized enhanced optical transmittance and absorption induced transparency (AIT) in the near-infrared or THz ranges. This is the first time that AIT is experimentally demonstrated at THz frequencies.
