Especialización
Jose Luis Abad obtanied a Master’s degree in Organic Chemist in 1991 and a PhD from the University of Barcelona (UB) in 1995 in the field of the bioorganic chemistry of steroidogenesis. Then he joined the group of Prof. Roger A. Jones (Rutgers University, NJ, USA) where he worked on the synthesis and applications of mass labelled nucleotides. After three years at Rutgers, he returned to the CSIC and worked on the synthesis and use of stereospecifically deuterated fatty acids to decipher mechanistic aspects of acyl-CoA desaturase reactions. After becoming a staff member of CSIC, he focused on the synthesis of sphingolipid analogues. His research interests include the synthesis by both chemical and enzymatic methods of masslabelled lipids and lipid analogues for structural and biological studies. He is also interested in the development of synthetic methodology for the stereocontrolled synthesis of sphingolipid modulators and chemical probes.
