In recent years we have studied the evolution, function and maintenance of signaling systems, with special emphasis on the role of visual and chemical sexual signals in reproduction and sexual selection processes of reptiles (lizards, anphisbaenians and turtles) and their relevance in speciation processes. Our work deals with the analysis of the characteristics of visual and chemical signals, the ability to discriminate these signals, behavioral responses and their consequences, but also with the analysis of the function of signals, the evolutionary mechanisms that maintain them and the ecological factors that condition them. Moreover, we work on the effects of global change and the degree of conservation of ecosystems on the "health" of the populations of amphibians and reptiles, both at the physiological level (parasites, body condition, immune system), and with relation to behavioral patterns (antipredatory strategies, habitat selection, thermoregulation) and efficacy of sexual signals. We also study the impact of invasive species of reptiles on the native fauna and the behavioral responses of these.
