I am currently working as a researcher in the "Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales" (MNCN, CSIC) from Madrid (Spain) thanks to a "Ramon y Cajal" (“Understanding the mechanistic behind soil carbon fluxes and stocks in Mediterranean ecosystems, BLACKBOXREVELATION”) five years contract granted in 2012. Here, my research focuses on the “microbial ecology and biogeochemical cycles of terrestrial ecosystems” being the leader of this research-line. I just got my first National Funding project as a PI (“Vulnerability to Climate Change of Holm-oak forest: mechanisms and influence of management on ecosystem services, VERONICA”). Since arrival in the MNCN I have established several formal collaborations and produced publications with different research groups within the MNCN. I am formally ascribed to the Department of Biogeography and Global Change, where I actively collaborate with the group of Prof. Dr. Fernando Valladares (Group of Mediterranean Ecology) especially in studies related to the role of the soil microbial communities in climate change-induced Mediterranean forests die-back. As a result of these collaborations, I currently co-direct with F. Valladares a PhD candidate (Thesis preliminary title: “Effect of habitat fragmentation and drought on soil microbial ecology and plant-soil relations in Mediterranean Holm-oak forest"; PhD candidate: Dulce Yaahid Flores Rentería, see below). In the MNCN I am also formally collaborating with several other researchers: Dr. Asunción de los Ríos Murillo (Department of Biogeochemistry and Microbial Ecology) with whom I co-direct a master thesis ("Resilience to environmental perturbations of microbial communities in different successional stages of soils from a receding glacier"; student: Daniel García Angulo) and Dr. Salvador Sanchez Carrillo (Department of Biogeochemistry and Microbial Ecology) with whom I am currently asking for a research project (SINERGHUM, Spanish National Park funding) to study the synergy between environmental services, compatible land uses and the conservation of wetlands within the Spanish network of National Parks.
