I graduated in Chemistry (Biochemistry) at the University of Granada (UGR) and obtained his PhD in protein crystallization in diffusion mass transport media working at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). My PhD thesis was awarded with the First Prize within the PhD Chemistry programme of the UGR. As Postdoctoral fellow I worked at the University of Huntsville (UAH) in Alabama (USA) and the Marshal Space Flight Centre (NASA) in protein crystallization methodologies and in situ resources utilization projects. In 2003, I joined the Laboratory of Crystallographic Studies (LEC) to lead the bio-crystallography research line, where I got a permanent position as Research Scientist of CSIC. My main research line focuses in the biotechnological applications of protein/enzyme crystals for drug formulations, as self-supported catalysts and as biosensors. I also maintain active collaborations with several groups in crystallographic studies to better understand structural biology of chemosensory pathway signalling proteins and enzyme fitness.
