Geociencias Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC), anteriormente Instituto de Ciencias de la Tierra Jaume Almera (ICTJA-CSIC),se creó en 1965 y fue el primer centro autónomo del CSIC de investigación geológica en Barcelona. GEO3BCN-CSIC investiga los procesos geodinámicos superficiales y profundos que afectan la corteza y el manto terrestre para mejorar la gestión responsable de los recursos geológicos y la prevención de los riesgos geológicos y antropogénicos: sismicidad, vulcanismo, almacenaje de CO2, cambio climático, etc. GEO3BCN realiza:
• Investigaciones geológicas y geofísicas.
• Exploración y asesoramiento en la explotación sostenible de recursos geológicos.
• Modelización experimental y numérica de procesos y peligros geológicos, medioambientales y climáticos.
• Caracterización multidisciplinaria de materiales geológicos y de patrimonio histórico y artístico.
• Desarrollo de nuevos instrumentos y aplicaciones para las Ciencias de la Tierra.
Geosciences Barcelona (GEO3BCN-CSIC), formerly known as Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera (ICTJA-CSIC), was established in 1965 as the first autonomous CSIC center devoted to geological research in Barcelona.GEO3BCN-CSIC research is focused on the study of the shallow and deep geodynamic processes that affect the crust and the mantle. The aim of our research is to improve the responsible management of the geological resources and the prevention of geological and anthropogenic risks: seismicity, volcanism, CO2 storage and climate change, etc.GEO3BCN-CSIC performs:
• Geological and geophysical investigations.
• Exploration and site assessment toward the sustainable exploitation of geological resources.
• Numerical and experimental modelling of geologicalprocesses and geological, environmental and climatic hazards.
• Multidisciplinary characterization of geological and cultural heritage materials.
• Development of new tools and applications for Earth Sciences.
