AbstractThe nucleus Ra-231 has been studied via the β(-) decay of Fr-231 in order to establish whether octupole correlations persist in this heavy radium isotope. The experimental determination of the structure of the nucleus, together with the application of the ATD βγγ(t) method, allows the B(Xλ) values to be derived. In the light of the new results and the comparison to the closest radium isotopes and thorium neighbours, the presence of octupole correlations in this nucleus is discussed.
