ResumenWe are currently working on an inversion algorithm using a finite-element solution for the 2.5-D controlledsource electromagnetic (CSEM) and the 2-D magnetotelluric (MT) forward problems. Here we present the current status of the forward algorithm. The governing Maxwell equations are solved in the frequency domain using a FE method with an unstructured triangular grid that permits arbitrary model geometries including topography and dipping layers. The main aspects of this work include the treatment of multisource and the numerical computation of the total field in the modelling of controlled-source electromagnetic data, that is, without the usual primary (background) / secondary (scattered) field approach, as this conventional scheme is not effective for complex structures lacking a simple background structure
