Hormonal control of reproduction in Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis)

Abstract

The development of a sustainable and economically profitable aquaculture industry for Senegalese sole is limited by the failure of farmed soles (F1 generation) to produce fertilized spawning. Sole aquaculture is now dependant on captures from the sea, to constitute broodstock of “wild” soles that reproduce spontaneously and are the source of viable larva (F1). This talk provides an overview of scientific and technological advances on the study and control of F1 Senegalese sole reproduction. Research was attempted to gain knowledge on reproductive endocrinology of sole and provide hormone-based technologies to overcome detected reproductive dysfunctions.
