ResumenTurbot (Scophthalmusmaximus) exhibits a marked sexual growth dimorphism in favor of females and thus aquaculture is interested in producing female populations. Therefore it is important to understand the process of sex differentiation in fish. Last years, the application of new sequencing technologies has provided an increase of database resources for non-model species. Here, we present a 454 FLX Titanium run of turbot gonadal- and brain-derived RNA at different stages of development. More than one million filtered sequences with and average length of 286 base pairs (bp) were obtained. The assembly of these sequences generated 65.472 contigs with a mean length of 625,9bp. Almost half of these contigs were annotated by using several public resources. In addition, a pilot oligo-based microarray was built to study turbot transcriptome during gonadal development. Together, these strategies will allow us to look in more detail to the genes involved in fish sex differentiation
