Issue Date: | 2012 | Publisher: | Sociedad Española de Ovinotecnia y Caprinotecnia | Citation: | XXXVII Congreso de la Sociedad Española de Ovinotecnia y Caprinotecnia : 401-405 (2012) | Abstract: | [EN] The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of different fat supplements (palm oil
and flaxseed), included in the total mixed rations of fattening lambs, over immune
response and stress promoted by road transport.
For the evaluation of the peripheral immune response, lambs were subcutaneously
immunised with ovalbumin after three weeks from the beginning of the diet. Those
lambs fed flaxseed showed less serological antibodies against ovalbumin than the group
fed palm oil. However, lymphostimulation assays showed a greater production of
gamma interferon in the flaxseed-fed group. No differences were observed in the
secretion of IL4. After 5 weeks of supplementation, the flaxseed-fed lambs showed less
tissue damage than those fed palm oil after an episode of stress induced by road
transport. |
