ResumenThe article deals the application of GIS in Historical research. The decision to create a Geographic Information System (GIS) to handle a great volume of heterogeneous information from the DynCoopNet project (Dynamic Complexity of Cooperation-Based, Self-Organizing Networks in the Global First Age) was based on the data’s spatio-temporal component. The aim of this work has been the study of the emergence of and evolutionary processes of exchange and cooperation that occur in nature, including human societies. The project is achieving value added designing a data model oriented historical GIS in which is possible to pour the wealth of historical data in order to visualize, analyze and model new approaches and new hypotheses about the historical significance of the centuries of expansion in the modern age (XVI-XVIII centuries).
