Title: MFM imaging of FePd stripe domains. Evolution with Pt buffer layer thickness

Abstract: Epitaxial FePd (001) thin films grown by ultrahigh voltage (UHV) sputtering onto different Pt buffer layers have been studied by magnetic force microscopy (MFM). Samples with buffer thickness down to 150 A present high perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Both stripe domain width and magnetic contrast obtained by MFM have been correlated with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in FePd epitaxial films through its dependence on the Pt buffer layer thickness. The presented domain structure reveals a qualitative way of evaluating the magnetic anisotropy.
