Abstract:The historical significance of old terra de Ulloa is closely related to the lineage bearing the same name as occurs in many other cases because of the prestige and social influence this House enjoyed throughout the end of the Medieval period and stHI even in the Modern. This link is expressed in many different ways. The relation we are precisely con cerned with deals with the towers, fortresses and Galicia's country houses that were erected in this geographical place befare the end of the 13th century A. D, mainly: Villamayor, Sanjurjo, Felpós, Grobas, Medín, Salceda and Puxeda, and Pambre since the second half of the 14th century. What we are trying to do here is not only to prove this fact but also to relate it with what is generally known as the social history of power. This helps us not only to know who were the builders and the owners of the fortresses but also how the Ulloa's family members could determine the historical evolution of the region of Ulloa, of íts castles, and of the family jtself.
