Título: | Butterfly eyespot serial homology: enter the Hox genes |
Autor: | Castelli-Gair Hombría, James CSIC ORCID | Palabras clave: | Butterflies Eye Gene expression regulation Eyespot Morphogen model Genetic |
Fecha de publicación: | 28-abr-2011 | Editor: | BioMed Central | Citación: | BMC Biology 9: 26 (2011) | Resumen: | Hox genes modify serial homology patterns in many organisms, exemplified in vertebrates by modification of the axial skeleton and in arthropods by diversification of the body segments. Butterfly wing eyespots also appear in a serial homologous pattern that, in certain species, is subject to local modification. A paper in EvoDevo reports the Hox gene Antp is the earliest known gene to have eyespot-specific expression; however, not all Lepidoptera express Antp in eyespots, suggesting some developmental flexibility. | Descripción: | 3 páginas, 1 figura.-- This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License. | Versión del editor: | http://dx.doi.org/10.1186/1741-7007-9-26 | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10261/40292 | DOI: | 10.1186/1741-7007-9-26 | E-ISSN: | 1741-707 |
