A-type glutamate receptors are among the most dynamic components of excitatory synapses. Their regulated addition and removal from synapses lead to long-lasting forms of synaptic plasticity, known as long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD). In addition, AMPA receptors (AMPARs) reach their synaptic targets after a complicated journey involvingmultiple transport steps through different membrane compartments. This chapter summarizes our current knowledge of the trafficking pathways of AMPARs and their relation to synaptic function and plasticity.es_ES
