Resumen: Tryptic peptide analysis of two of the head proteins of bacteriophage 29, HP1 and HP3, has shown that they are two different proteins. Treatment of the phage particles with 50% dimethylsulfoxide releases the fibers of the head. The fiberless particles are infectious and do not contain protein HP3. The head fibers have been purified and characterized by electron microscopy; by gel electrophoresis they were shown to be protein HP3, protein HP1 being the major head protein
