Abstract: Technical problems in recording small variations in the vertical direction caused by earth tides make necessary a revision of the methods used up to now. Fundamental modifications in the horizontal pendulums with Zöllner suspension have made possible the construction of a new electronic clinometer that has been in operation since 1978 at our "Valle de los Caídos" stations. A description of the system is presented as well as an evaluation of the results. The capacitive system introduced in this new pendulum can be the base for new experiences in vertical pendulums and extensometers for studies of earth tides and of geodynamics.
