MELIBEA. The open access validator: an approach to create and weight your open access policy

AuthorsMelero, Remedios ; Rodríguez Gairín, Josep Manel; Fenollosa, Pedro ; Abadal, Ernest; Abad García, Francisca
KeywordsOpen access
Issue Date20-Sep-2010
AbstractMELIBEA is a directory and validator of institutional open-access (OA) policies regarding scientific and academic work. It tries not to duplicate efforts and services provided by SHERPA/JULIET or Roarmap but complement them and impairing a new way to dive into the wording of an open access policy. As a directory, it describes the existing policies. As a validator, it subjects them to qualitative and quantitative analysis based on fulfillment of a set of indicators that reflect the bases of an institutional policy. Based on the values assigned to a set of indicators, weighted according to their importance, the validator indicates as core and a percentage of fulfillment for each policy analyzed. The sum of weighted values of each indicator is converted to a percentage scale to give what we have called the “validated open-access percentage”.
