[EN] Upon the basis o£ large archivistical documents, in this article the author explains the proceedings in taking resolutions by the German diplomacy to embrace a definite attitude towards the diplomatic, and later warlike, struggle between Spain and the United States, in the years o£ 1897.1898, on account of the Cuban quarrel. In the beginning, Willhelm 11, urged by his prompting character. takes the charge of impelling a common European action in favour of the Spanish rights. But his closest collaborators proposed a much milder attitude, so that Germany must not assume the initiative in this matter. The The initiative must be taken by others more interested in powers. They believed thtat it concerned to Austria to incite another euorpean chanceries to the the initiative on this common European action. |
