Iron status in spanish vegetarian

AbstractAlthough the prevalence of anaemia was low and men had a sufficient iron status, vegetarian women presented low iron stores, with iron deficiency or depletion. The absence of differences between lacto-ovo vegetarians and vegans suggests that the type of vegetarian diet does not have an influence on iron status. We recommend that vegetarian women combine foods properly in order to increase bioavailability and prevent iron deficiency.
