Magneto-optical modulation of surface plasmon modes

Abstract

Nanosystems with combined magnetic and plasmonic functionalities have in recent years become an active topic of research[1]. In these new structures, know as magneto-plasmonics, magnetic and plasmonic properties are intertwined, allowing for example plasmonic properties to become tuneable upon de application of a magnetic field. In this talk we will review the current understanding of this topic. Approaches to increase the wave vector modulation of propagative surface plasmon modes using a magnetic field will be also presented[2,3]. In particular, a new mechanism based on the magnetorefractive effect will be discussed.
