Título: | Lignin of Posidonia oceanica seagrass is hyperacylated by p-hydroxybenzoates |
Autor: | Rencoret, Jorge CSIC ORCID | Fecha de publicación: | 5-ago-2018 | Citación: | Lignin Gordon Research Conference Towards Viable Solutions for Lignin Valorization Póster 27 (2018) | Resumen: | The lignin in P oceanica sheath tissues, which represents up to 29.5% of its dry weight, was analyzed in situ and after its enzymatic isolation (CEL) by two-dimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (20-NMR) and Oerivatization Followed by Reductive Cleavage {OFRC). 20-NMR analyses revealed that P oceanica sheaths lignin is largely enriched in G-units {H:G:S molar ratio of 3:81: 16) and p-hydroxybenzoate (pBA). Taking into account that the pBA can only be connected to lignin via ester (acting as acylating group) or via ether {whose formation involves the 4-0H group) linkages, an acetylation assay was performed to determine whether the 4-0H of pBA was free or etherified. 20-HSQC spectra of the non-acetylated and acetylated CEL preparation of P oceanica clearly revealed a shift in the pBA signals after acetylation, which indicated that the 4-0H groups of pBA occur freely and are therefore not etherified. Consequently, the pBA moieties in P oceanica sheath are bound to lignin through ester linkages and bearing a free phenolic (4-0H) group, as also occur in the lignins of other monocotyledonous plants. OFRC analysis further revealed that esterified pBA are found acylating the majory-OH ofthe lignin side-chain of both guaiacyl {73%) and syringyl (61 %) lignin units, the highestp-hydroxybenzoylation degree reported in plan! lignins to date. lnterestingly, the pattern of p-hydroxybenzoylation of P oceanica widely differs from those observed in the lignins of other plants where pBA are preferentially acylating the S-lignin units whereas G-units are barely p-hydroxybenzoylated. | Descripción: | Póster presentado en el Lignin Gordon Research Conference Towards Viable Solutions for Lignin Valorization August 5 - 10, 2018, (Easton, MA), US | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10261/175352 |
