Nuevas fuentes naturales de sapogeninas esteroidicas I. Asparagus umbellatus Link

Abstract

From the rhizoms of the Asparagus umbellatus Link, recollected in May in the South of Tenerife, we obtained β-sitosterol and three sapogenins, two of them, tigogenin and hecogenin, in great quantitites, the third one, identified as hispidogenin, only small yield.

The rhizoms of A. umbellatus Link recollected in winter, nearly exclusively contained tigogenin and hecogenin, hispidogenin being present in traces only.

From the first time from the species Asparagus, three steroidal sapogenins different from sarsasapogenin were isolated, until now the only genin found in the Asparagus studied.
