[EN] In this article we offer information on the development, along the c centuries, of a not very well-known facet of the foreign merchants communities settled in the Spanish cities during the Modern Age. With not-published documents, relating to the one denominated “Ilustre y Antigua Nación Flamenca” of Seville and Cádiz, we have tried to carry out a description of the beneficent activities carried out by the colony of merchants formed by natives of the Southern Low Countries and of the Dutch Republic, in Seville and, especially, in Cádiz. This community had attributed to the foundation of its brotherhood the administration had attributed to the foundation of its brotherhood the administration properties of great value. This way, the description of this religious and compassionate activity not contributes us a vision less interesting, in comparison with the purely economic one, of the importance that had the integration of these communities in the Spanish society of the XVII and XVIII centuries. |
