ResumenFrom the theoretical point of view, the modifications introduced in the quasifree scattering model potential remove undesirable characteristics of former treatments and approximately correct for many-body effects and nonionization processes. From the applied point of view, the model remains of an ab initio nature and the new version gives improved results for He to Xe noble gas differential cross sections. The application to molecules is also satisfactory. Based on numerical considerations, a simplified version of the model is also discussed, resulting in much simpler expressions without appreciable loss of accuracy. ©2003 The American Physical Society
