Against post-politics: a critical archaeology for the 21st century

Abstract

[EN] I would like to defend two points here: that the only way archaeology can be critical is by being openly political, and that one of the main objectives of a critical archaeology should be to expose the darkest side of modernity and, particularly, capital-ism. This paper is also an indictment against current trends in the discipline that, under the cloak of social compromise, actually work for the neutralization of the political and the perpetuation of the neoliberal status quo.

[DE] Ich möchte in meinem Beitrag zwei Argumente verteidigen: zum einen, dass es für eine sich als kritisch verstehende Archäologie nur einen Weg gibt, nämlich den, offen politisch zu sein. Zum anderen, dass es eines der Hauptziele einer kritischen Archäologie sein sollte, die dunkelsten Seiten der Moderne und insbesondere des Kapitalismus aufzudecken. Dieser Beitrag prangert zudem einige derzeitige Trends im Fach an, die unter dem Deckmantel des sozialen Kompromisses an der Neutralisierung des Politischen und am Fortbestand des neoliberalen Status Quo arbeiten.
