ResumenThe elimination of sheep coccidia oocysts was studied on a monthly basis in four areas of the province of León, Spain over a period of thirteen months. Of the 937 faecal samples examined, 92,8% contained coccidia oocysts. The maximum infection prevalence was observed in December (97,6%) and it was in autumn when there was the highest number of infected animals (96,0 %). The average number of oocysts per gram of faeces (opg) was 2062,3 ± 201,2. Coccidia oocysts were detected throughout the year, with the greatest elimination being in spring and the beginning of the summer, and the maximum value was found in May (4582,9 ± 923,9). Both the prevalence (%) and the intensity (opg) of infection were greater in the youngest group of animals, decreasing gradually as the age of the animals increased.
