AbstractThe objective of this study was to develop a standard metaphase karyotype for somatic cells using haploid plants. This karyotype would identify the individual sugarbeet chromosornes, more on the basis of the cornbination of the relative size and centrorneric position than on statistical techniques. A positive identification of individual chrornosornes would have considerable value for future cytological and cytogenetic studies in sugarbeet.
