Fecha de publicación: | 1991 | Editor: | CSIC-UCO - Instituto De Zootecnica | Citación: | Archivos de Zootecnia 40: 3- 14 (1991) | Resumen: | Manchega ewes grazing sown irrigated pastures in Central Spain during the autum or spring lambing season were, or were not, supplemented with up to 1 kg ewe-1 d-1 of starchrich ingredients (barley and field beans) until mid-lactation with the aim of assessing the influence of supplementation in grazing conditions on milk composition and cheese making suitability. Five sampling periods in 1986 and six in 1988 were controlled beginning one week after parturiton. Milk samples were taken at 15day intervals. Main components, nitrogen fractions (casein and whey proteins), minerals and fatty acid contents were determined in milk samples in the 1986 autum lambing season. The nitrogen fractions were analyzed in milk samples of the 1988 spring lambing season. No differences in main milk components arose between supplemented and unsupplemented animals but differences among sampling periods were observed. Some similar trend was observed in mineral contents and relative proportions of fatty acids. As related to nitrogen fractions, significant differences were detected among sampling periods in the non-protein nitrogen (NPN) and caseins showing a steady decrease and increase respectively. Only in the milk samples of the 1988 spring lambing season the relative proportion of lactoserum proteins were modified by the level of barley suplement. Under conditions stated in this experiment unsupplemented ewes depleted body reserves and slightily decreased milk yields but its milk chemistry changed very little as related to supplemented ones. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10261/116133 | Identificadores: | issn: 0004-0592 |
