ResumenRaman and Rayleigh diagnostics of free jets have been proposed long ago, but practical applications have been scarce so far [1-5]. The low density of free jets and the intrinsic small cross section of the Raman process contribute multiplicatively, yielding a very weak Raman intensity which is not sufficient for routine work with conventional photomultiplier tubes (PMT’s). This severe limitation was overcome in part by means of sophisticated intracavity setups.
