Los efectos de la imaginación: medicina, ciencia y sociedad en el siglo XVIII

Abstract

[ES] El presente articulo explora la historia de la imaginación maternal durante el siglo XVIII tanto en el mundo anglosajón como en el ámbito francés. Se examina la supuesta capacidad de la madre para influir en el desarrollo natural del feto desde el punto de vista de su reinterpretación en el mundo ilustrado, así como de su justificación epistemológica y de su consecuencia normativa.

[EN] This paper explores the history of the maternal imagination during the 18th century, along with its national variations in the English and in the French contexts. The alleged faculty of the mother's fancy to modify the normal development of the foetus is examined here from the point of view of its cultural reinterpretations, its epistemological justification and its normative consequences.
