The Lewis-base-catalyzed conjugate addition of alcohols to the activated triple bond of alkyl propiolates leads to β-alkoxyacrylates. This type of products has been widely synthesized and employed in modern organic chemistry. However, the literature shows an elevated and varied number of experimental procedures involving several bases and reaction conditions which are sometimes far from ideal, thus obtaining the valuable βalkoxyacrylates with different results. The lack of information concerning tertiary alcohols, and the absence of an efficient method, encouraged us to carry out a complete study of the reaction between methyl propiolate and different types of alcohols. In this communication, we will present our results in the development and implementation of a general, robust and practical protocol for the synthesis of β-alkoxyacrylates
