Mi línea principal de investigación pretende utilizar los crustáceos del plancton de los lagos de alta montaña de los Pirineos como modelos para estudiar la evolución de los caracteres de las especies y su retroalimentación eco-evolutiva. Estudiamos la importancia relativa de los eventos estocásticos y las fuerzas selectivas para la determinación de la diferenciación genética local en las poblaciones naturales. La comprensión de las distribuciones de las especies y la importancia de los factores ambientales en esta distribución requieren entender cómo los factores locales afectan la dinámica de las poblaciones y la estructura de las metapoblaciones. Para realizar estos estudios se describen los carácteres de las especies, las relaciones tróficas y la afinidad genética. Siguiendo esta línea de investigación, estamos estudiando la filogenia a escala continental de diversas especies de copépodos y cladóceros para poder entender su grado de diferenciación genética en los Pirineos y su historia de colonización. También estamos desarrollando nuevas herramientas para describir las relaciones tróficas basadas en la huella de los isótopos estables de los aminoácidos. Complementando esta línea, estamos consolidando una nueva línea de investigación que tiene como objetivo principal la descripción del proceso de las invasiones de especies en los lagos de alta montaña de los Pirineos, centrándose en el efecto de las introducciones de peces y sus consecuencias para los ecosistemas de los lagos. En este momento nos centramos en describir los efectos de estas invasiones (biología de la conservación y ecología), pero pretendemos estudiar este fenómeno como un posible generador de adaptaciones locales en las especies que no son erradicadas por los peces (Ecología Evolutiva). Esto es posible ya que hemos podido establecer la fecha de introducción de los peces en numerosos lagos, y permitirá el estudio de cómo algunos carácteres de especies se correlacionan con el tiempo de invasión.
