Estudiamos las rutas de biosíntesis de lípidos y ácidos grasos en plantas, con especial interés en la ruta de desaturación de ácidos grasos y concretamente la regulación, distribución y organización de las omega-3 desaturasas de ácidos grasos. También estudiamos la biosíntesis de ácidos grasos de cadena larga en especies vegetales de interés industrial para la producción de biocombustibles con alto valor energético y mejora de sus propiedades de manejo a bajas temperaturas.
We study the biosynthesis of lipids and fatty acids in plants, focusing in the fatty acid desaturation pathway, and more concretely, in the regulation, distribution and organization of the omega-3 fatty acid desaturases. We are also interested in the biosynthesis of long-chain fatty acids in plant species with industrial applications, particularly in the obtention of biofuel with high energetic value and enhanced low-temperature properties.
