[ES] La digitalización y la globalización han influido no solo en las prácticas y la organización social y política, sino también en las creencias y prácticas religiosas. El Islam, la comunidad islámica y los musulmanes están a la vanguardia de los desarrollos más recientes. Hasta ahora, las tendencias teológicas e ideológicas relativamente marginales han adquirido una nueva importancia dentro del Islam y este nuevo Islam se está difundiendo como una marca en un corpus de imágenes e imaginarios públicos en constante expansión. La propuesta de MIDA tiene como objetivo comprender cómo la digitalización está dando forma al Islam (es decir, creencias, prácticas, instituciones políticas y sociales y perspectivas). ¿Cómo está modificando esta revolución tecnológica la relación que los musulmanes tienen con el pasado? ¿Por qué está remodelando el Islam de maneras más profundas que otros monoteísmos? Necesitamos entender los desarrollos que están transformando la creencia religiosa en nuestro tiempo y para hacerlo, la propia academia necesita aprovechar los recursos de la revolución tecnológica que está impulsando el cambio.
[EN] Digitisation and globalisation have influenced not only social and political practices and organisation, but also religious beliefs and practices. Islam, the Islamic commonwealth and the Muslims, are at the forefront of the most recent developments. Hitherto relatively marginal theological and ideological trends have acquired new prominence within Islam and this new Islam is being disseminated as a brand in an ever-expanding corpus of public images and imaginaries. The MIDA proposal aims to understand how digitisation is shaping Islam (i.e. beliefs, practices, political and social institutions, and outlooks). How is this technological revolution modifying the relation Muslims have with the past? Why is it reshaping Islam in more profound ways than other monotheisms? We need to understand the developments that are transforming religious belief in our time and to do so scholarship itself needs to seize the resources of the technological revolution that is spurring change.
